Dua For Qunoot
Among the signs of a humble servant is when he constantly consults The One who created him. We supplicate to express our gratitude and thankfulness to Allah s.w.t. It is indeed our utmost duty to seek from Him goodness and forgiveness in times of hardship and ease.
What Is Dua Qunoot!
The word Qunoot can translate to piety. Meaning it means surrendering to Allah, Acknowledgment of servitude, and performing acts of obedience that do not involve disobedience. While Dua Qunut means a certain dua said in tough times.
There are two known forms of Qunoot dua, the first was recited by Prophet Muhammed during Witr prayer. The second one he recited during Fajr prayer when there were tough times and very unfortunate events.
However, people from the Shafi’i school (Mazhab) recite Dua Qunoot regularly in Salatul Fajr. And other schools have another opinion that is not recited regularly.
Qunut can be done at any time, the Prophet (PBUH) used to say Qunut in both Fajr and Witr Salah.
Now, it is not mandatory that Dua Qunut be recited in the Witr Salah. But it is the Sunnah or Mustahabb (Recommended) to make Qunoot during Witr Prayer.
Importance Of Dua Qunoot
Dua is very important in the life of Muslims because Dua is like a conversation with Allah Almighty in which we put our needs before Him and ask His help in the resolution of our problems. We ask from Almighty Allah for everything that we want in our life no matter how big or small.
Dua is a means of keeping in touch with Allah and due to Dua, we get closer to our Lord. So, Dua is a source of keeping the supplicant closer to the Almighty Allah. Dua is not only a submission about our needs before Allah Almighty but it is a form of worship as well.
Dua is considered a weapon with the help of which we can change our situation by asking for help from Almighty Allah. Dua can change the destiny so try to make Dua in every situation because with Dua you will always get closer to Almighty Allah.
The use of dua has significantly been emphasized in the Quran and Sunnah and is a means for people to draw closer to Allah.
Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran:
“When my servants ask you concerning me, (tell them) I am indeed close (to them). I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calls on me.” (Quran, 2:186).
So with this verse, we can say that Allah Almighty listens to us when we make Dua. We should always seek help from Allah.
The importance of dua can be evaluated from this Hadith:
“Nothing is more honorable to Allah the Most High than Dua.” [Sahih al-Jami`]
Dua Qunoot In English
اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِي فِيمَنْ هَدَيْتَ وَعَافِنِي فِيمَنْ عَافَيْتَ وَتَوَلَّنِي فِيمَنْ تَوَلَّيْتَ وَبَارِكْ لِي فِيمَا أَعْطَيْتَ وَقِنِي شَرَّ مَا قَضَيْتَ إِنَّكَ تَقْضِي وَلاَ يُقْضَى عَلَيْكَ وَإِنَّهُ لاَ يَذِلُّ مَنْ وَالَيْتَ وَلاَ يَعِزُّ مَنْ عَادَيْتَ تَبَارَكْتَ رَبَّنَا وَتَعَالَيْتَ
“Allahumma ihdini feeman hadayt, wa a’fini fiman afait, wa tawallani fiman tawallait, wa barik Li fima atait, wa qini sharra ma qadait, fa Innaka taqdi wa la yuqda Alaik, wa innahu la yadhillu man walait, tabarakta Rabbana wa ta’alait”.
“O Allah guide me among those You have guided, pardon me among those You have pardoned, befriend me among those You have befriended, bless me in what You have granted, and save me from the evil that You decreed. Indeed You decree, and none can pass decree, and none can pass decree upon You, indeed he is not humiliated whom You have befriended, blessed are You our Lord and Exalted.”
Second version of Dua-E-Qunot:
اَللَّهُمَّ إنا نَسْتَعِينُكَ وَنَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَنُؤْمِنُ بِكَ وَنَتَوَكَّلُ عَلَيْكَ وَنُثْنِئْ عَلَيْكَ الخَيْرَ وَنَشْكُرُكَ وَلَا نَكْفُرُكَ وَنَخْلَعُ وَنَتْرُكُ مَنْ ئَّفْجُرُكَ اَللَّهُمَّ إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَلَكَ نُصَلِّئ وَنَسْجُدُ وَإِلَيْكَ نَسْعأئ وَنَحْفِدُ وَنَرْجُو رَحْمَتَكَ وَنَخْشآئ عَذَابَكَ إِنَّ عَذَابَكَ بِالكُفَّارِ مُلْحَقٌ
“Allahumma inna nasta-eenoka wa nastaghfiruka wa nu’minu bika wa natawakkalu alaika wa nusni alaikal khair, wa nashkuruka wala nakfuruka wa nakhla-oo wa natruku mai yafjuruka, Allah humma iyyaka na’budu wa laka nusalli wa nasjud wa ilaika nas aaa wa nahfizu wa narju rahma taka wa nakhshaa azaabaka inna azaabaka bil kuffari mulhik”.
O Allah! We invoke you for help, and beg for forgiveness, and we believe in you and have trust in you and we praise you, in the best way we can; and we thank you and we are not ungrateful to you, and we forsake and turn away from the one who disobeys you. O Allah! We worship you and prostrate ourselves before you, and we hasten towards you and serve you, and we hope to receive your mercy and we dread your torment. Surely, the disbelievers shall incur your torment.
اللهُمَّ آتِي نَفْسِي تَقْوَاهَا وَزَكِّهَا أَنْتَ خَيْرُ مَنْ زَكَّاهَا، أَنْتَ وَلِيُّهَا وَمَوْلَهَا
Allāhumma āti nafsī taqwāha, wa zakkihā anta khairu man zakkāha, anta waliyyuhā wa maulāhā
O Allah! Grant me piety and purify my soul as You are the Best to purify it. You are its Guardian and its Protecting Friend.
اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ العَفْوَ وَالعَافِيَةَ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَة
Allāhumma innī as-alukal-‘afwa wal-‘āfiyah fid-dunya wal-ākhirah
O Allah, I seek You for forgiveness and my wellbeing in this world and the hereafter.
اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مُوجِبَاتِ رَحْمَتِكَ، وَعَزَائِمَ مَغْفِرَتِكَ، وَالسَّلاَمَةَ مِنْ كُلِّ إِثْم، وَالْغَنِيمَةَ مِنْ كُلِّ بِرْ وَالْفَوْزَ بِالجَنَّة، وَالنَّجَاةَ مِنَ النَّارِ
Allāhumma innī asa’luka mūjibāti rahmatik, wa ‘azā-ima maghfiratik, was-salāmata min kulli ithm, wal-ghanīmata min kulli birrin, wal-fawza bil- jannah, wannajāta mina-nār
O Allah, I beg You for that which incites Your Mercy and the means for Your forgiveness, safety from every sin, the benefit from every good deed, success in attaining Paradise and deliverance from Fire.
وَصلَّى اللهُ عَلىَ سَيًّدًنَا مُحَمَّدٍ النَّبِيِّ الأُمِّيِ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ أَجْمَعِينَ
Wa sallallāhu ‘alā sayyidinā Muhammadin Nabiyyil ummīyi wa ‘alā ālihi wa sahbihi ajma’īn

Dua Qunoot Before & After Ruku’
Most scholars say the Qunoot should come after bowing or after the Ruku i.e. after saying (sami Allahu liman hamidah Rabbana lakal hamd). You would then raise your hands for supplication and recite the Qunot. After finishing the imam would say takbeer, “Allahu akbar” and go into sujud. It’s also acceptable the Qunoot Dua to be done before going into the Ruku.
